Overview
Body System and Biomedical Innovations
Entering Grades 7-8-9 $1,395.00
Are you interested in biomedical innovations such as gene editing that can help people with chronic diseases, disabilities, or prosthetic limbs? In this program, you will deepen your knowledge of body systems, investigate how some of these systems may break down, and explore how scientists and engineers are working to solve these problems. Together we will use actual diagnostic techniques to solve medical-malady mysteries for fictitious patients. During the program you will dissect a simulated heart, utilize our Planetarium to imagine stepping inside a blood vessel and a cell, and interview practicing doctors to learn more about what they do and how they do it. You will gain some knowledge of CRISPR, a current gene-editing technology, as well as acquire skills for designing and prototyping a prosthetic hand. This program includes visits to science center exhibits.
